Group calls on NAFDAC, SON to take action against harmful spices in Kano market

The Arewa Youth Protection, Unity and Peaceful Forum (AYUPUPF), has called for immediate action against some suspicious food additives at Singer, a popular food market in Kano State. 

The group said it has discovered the spread of fake and counterfeit spices sold at the market that poses threats to the lives of the residents.

The National Secretary General, Ali Sani Haladu, disclosed this in a statement signed and issued to journalists in the state on Tuesday, calling for the intervention of the relevant authorities.

Haladu said their finding has uncovered the spread of the spices which he identified as “FUFENG, LINGUA, MEIHUA, MOMI and TASTEMOTO” respectively.

“We held an emergency meeting in Kano State with stakeholders, where all those in attendance unanimously resolved to take the following actions, viz: 

“Draw the attention of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission to put a capital full stop to this menace for the betterment of our society; since the saying goes ‘health is wealth`.

“Apart from taking drastic measures, the products must be seized and all the apprehended criminals or anybody involved in this crime against humanity should be brought to book.

“We crave for the indulgence of all patriotic citizens of this state as well as other Nigerians residing in Kano should do the needful simply by reporting such misdemeanour or rather mischievous mechanism of evildoers to the relevant authorities, viz: NAFDAC, SON, MOH, FCCPC, NGOs, GLOs.”

Haladu also urged both authorities and the stakeholders to take the bull by the horn, owing to which they should find a means of identifying expiry dates and substandard and fake food items that are currently being sold in and around the market.

He called for the enlightenment of the general public on how to identify the evil people behind such misconduct, especially those who are bent on making money illegally.
