The Sultan of Sokoto and president-general of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared today the first day of Zulki’ida 1447AH.
This is contained in a press statement signed by the chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council in Sokoto, and Wazirin Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu.
The statement said the declaration followed the non-sighting of the crescent moon on Friday, 17th April 2026, corresponding to 29th Shawwal 1447AH.

It added that Saturday, 18th April 2026, was observed as the 30th day of Shawwal 1447AH.
According to the council, working in conjunction with the National Moon sighting Committee, no confirmed report of the moon’s sighting was received from across the country.
It said the sultan had accepted the report and declared Sunday, 19th April 2026, as the first day of Zulki’ida 1447AH.
