2027: Gwarzo withdraws from Kano North race, endorses Barau

A former Kano State Deputy Governor and immediate past Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo, has withdrawn from the Kano North senatorial race and declared support for Deputy Senate President Barau  Jibrin as the consensus candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

Gwarzo announced his withdrawal after a strategic meeting held in the early hours of Wednesday at the Kano Government House.

SolaceBase reports that the meeting was led by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and attended by key political stakeholders, including Senator Barau, former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo, Hon. Abba Bichi, the APC State Chairman Umar Haruna Doguwa and other party leaders.

Speaking after the meeting, Gwarzo said the major reason he initially remained in the race was due to pressure and encouragement from his supporters, who wanted him to contest.

He, however, explained that after several consultations and meetings with relevant stakeholders both in Kano and Abuja, he decided to step down in the interest of peace, unity and the overall success of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, the decision was taken to strengthen the party ahead of future political engagements and ensure harmony among supporters in Kano North.

Gwarzo also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and Governor Yusuf for their roles in promoting dialogue and reconciliation among party stakeholders.
