Surgery to separate Nigerian siamese twins begins in Saudi Arabia

The surgery to separate Nigerian Siamese twins Hassana and Husina, children of Omar Rayano, from Kaduna state is ongoing in Saudi Arabia.

This is in implementation of directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

A medical and surgical team, led by Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, on Thursday began the surgical operation.

SOLACEBASE reports that the surgery is being carried out with the participation of 35 consultants, specialists, nursing and technical personnel at the King Abdullah Specialist Hospital for Children of the King Abdulaziz Medical City of the National Guard in Riyadh.

Dr. Al Rabeeah explained that the surgery is expected to be performed through eight stages and will take about 14 hours.

The twins were born in Kaduna, Nigeria on January 12, 2022, and they share the abdomen, pelvis, liver, intestines, urinary and reproductive system, and pelvic bones.

He added that the Saudi program for the separation of Siamese twins has supervised 130 cases from 23 countries over 33 years and separated 55 cases, and this is the 56th case.
