A Kano high court presided by Justice Aishatu Rabi’u Danlami Muhammad on Thursday granted bail to a former commissioner of health Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf standing trial on a three count charge of criminal breach
Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf is standing trial over alleged siphoning of more than 294 thousand Dollars equivalent of over 47 million Naira earmarked for Kano state students in Egypt.
Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf a former commissioner of Health during the administration of Engineer Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, is also accused of another charge of not handing over more than 94 thousand dollars earmarked for students in Egypt as their upkeep allowances to them.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Counsel to the accused Barrister Nuraini Jimoh prayed the court to grant his client bail and the court fixed 30th April for the continuation of the case.
The prosecuting counsel, Barrister Mahmud Balarabe objected to the bail.
In her ruling Justice Aishatu Rabi’u Danlami Muhammad granted the accused bail with 200 hundred thousand Naira and two sureties while adjourning the case to 30th April, 2018
