The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), Borno and Yobe States Chapter, has donated a large consignment of drugs and medical consumables to support the Borno State Government’s response to the ongoing cholera outbreak in affected communities across the state.

The donation was presented by an AANI delegation led by Distinguished Dr. Bulama Mali Gubio, mni, alongside other senior members of the association, as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s emergency health response and mitigate the impact of the disease.

SolaceBase recalls that the cholera outbreak, which began in May, has affected several local government areas in Borno State, with health authorities reporting thousands of suspected cases and dozens of deaths.

The state government and its partners have continued to scale up emergency interventions, including case management, water and sanitation measures, and public awareness campaigns to curb the spread of the disease.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Borno State Government, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Human Services, Dr. Shettima Maina Mohammed, mni, expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely and significant in the fight against the cholera outbreak.

He said the government and people of Borno State were grateful to AANI for the humanitarian gesture and its commitment to supporting public health interventions.

Mohammed, who was accompanied by directors of the ministry and members of the State Cholera Response Team, assured the delegation that the donated drugs and medical consumables would be immediately deployed to cholera hotspot communities across the state.

He noted that the intervention would complement ongoing response efforts by the state government and its partners, helping to improve access to essential medical supplies and save lives in the affected areas.

The donation underscores the role of professional associations and other stakeholders in supporting government efforts to respond to public health emergencies and protect vulnerable communities.
