Abduction of Kwara legislator’s wife, children, Police arrest five

Kwara State Police Command said that it has arrested five persons in connection with the reported abduction of the wife and two children of Soliu Ayansola Lawal, a member of the Kwara State House of Assembly.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, on Wednesday, disclosed that at least five people had been arrested by the command over the abduction of the wife and two children of the lawmaker.

Recall that the wife and two children of the lawmaker representing the Ipaiye/Malete/Olooru constituency of Moro Local Government in the State House of Assembly.

Okasanmi when asked if any progress had been made in rescuing the family of the Legislator. the PPRO said, “Yes, five people have been arrested and they are helping the police in the ongoing investigation.”

It was further gathered that the Shao community have also taken steps by employing local hunters and vigilante to comb the forest in Moro and Ifelodun local government areas to search for the three victims who are all from the community.

A source who is an executive member of the community association, who would not want his name mentioned in print said “The Elders of the town have met and have taken actions, but I don’t want to disclose our strategy to the press as at now. We will talk later but don’t let me tell you what the community is doing now until the result is achieved.

It was gathered that a gang of suspected kidnappers, stormed the residence located in the suburban part of the state capital around 1:00 a.m. on Monday with AK-47 rifles, shooting sporadically before whisking the kidnap victims away.

Some of the sources contacted in the area said that the whereabouts of the victims had remained unknown since then.

“One of the kidnappers, who contacted the family after the attack, said that he was yet to join his gang members in the forest to ascertain the amount of ransom to demand”, he said.

However, the telephone line of the lawmaker had been switched off on Wednesday and could not be reached to speak on the incident.
