The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) has conducted a sensitisation exercise for the implementation of the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) in the Bulbula-Gayawa community of Nasarawa Local Government Area, Kano State.

This was contained in a statement by Kano ACReSAL Project Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Aminu Gidado Yusha’u, on behalf of the State Commissioner for Environment and Chairman of the State Steering Committee, Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim.

The sensitisation aimed to familiarise Project Affected Persons (PAPs) and the broader community with the RAP, which is a crucial component of the proposed erosion control works in the area.

SolaceBase had reported that  Kano State Government, under its World Bank-assisted Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) program, awarded an N8.5 billion contract for the Bulbula/Gayawa gully erosion control project.

The long-awaited intervention aims to mitigate the devastating impact of erosion in Ungogo and Nassarawa Local Government Areas, where residents have suffered years of severe environmental degradation.

Speaking at the event, Yusha’u urged the community to support and cooperate with the government to ensure the successful execution of the project, reaffirming the commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration to addressing environmental challenges that have long affected the community’s socio-economic growth.

Also, Environmental Safeguard Officer, Alhaji Mukhtar Bello, provided an overview of the RAP, highlighting the need for active participation and cooperation from the PAPs to enable timely completion of the plan and the commencement of civil works.

In a remark, the District Head of Gama Community, Alhaji Rabiu Muhammad Isyaku, commended the government’s efforts through the Kano-ACReSAL project and pledged the community’s commitment to playing its part in ensuring the project’s success.
