ACReSAL takes climate change education to technical college in Kano

The “Catch Them Young” initiative under the climate change sensitisation and awareness campaign of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project was held on Monday at the Government Technical College (GTC), Ungogo, in Kano.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Communication Officer, Kano-ACReSAL, Maryam Abdulqadir, on Monday.

According to the statement, the program is part of Kano-ACReSAL’s efforts to promote environmental consciousness among young people by engaging them early and equipping them with the knowledge to build a sustainable future.

Students who participated in the session expressed excitement, describing the initiative as timely and impactful.

SolaceBase reports that the acting Project Coordinator, Kano ACReSAL,  Dr. Abdulhamid Bala, while addressing participants, encouraged the students to utilise the knowledge gained and take responsibility in sensitising their peers, families, and communities on the importance of protecting the environment.

In his closing remarks, the Vice Principal of GTC Ungogo, Malam Sani Sulaiman, commended Kano-ACReSAL for choosing the school for the initiative and pledged their full support for the Climate Change Champion Club being established in the school.

Resource persons at the event included Prof. Muhammad Alhaji of Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil, and Dr. Ummi Khaltum Muhammad from the Centre for Dryland Agriculture, Bayero University, Kano. They delivered lectures on climate change, drought, flooding, and environmental management.
