ACReSAL to introduce technology for preventing solid waste pollution in Kano State

The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) is working on introducing technology for preventing solid waste pollution in Kano State.

Kano-ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Dr. Dahiru M Hashim, announced this when he represented Kano State at a 3-week international symposium on technology for preventing solid waste pollution in developing countries, which was organized by the People’s Republic of China.

SOLACEBASE reports that Dr Hashim delivered a speech on behalf of the participants from seven countries, who were in China to learn from the Chinese experience and expertise in tackling the challenge of solid waste pollution.

A statement issued by Kano-ACReSAL Communication Officer, Maryam Abdulkadri on Monday said Dr. Hashim appreciated the Chinese government, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, and the Suzhou University of Science and Technology for hosting the seminar and providing the opportunity for knowledge exchange, experience sharing, and partnership building.

“This seminar provides a unique platform for people like me to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and collaborate with other stakeholders from different regions of the world, ‘’Hashim said.

He also highlighted the importance of the seminar’s theme, which focused on effective measures and strategies for wastewater treatment technology, municipal solid waste, agricultural solid waste, air pollution, and domestic waste sorting and collection, among many pressing topics, all in an effort towards low carbon and green economy, carbon emission management for developing countries.

Hashim also stated that participation in the seminar will not only benefit the participants in an individual capacity but also contribute significantly to the global efforts in combating climate change. “I firmly believe that participation in this seminar will not only benefit us in an individual capacity but also contribute significantly to the global efforts in combating climate change.”

He added that he and his colleagues will utilize the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, forge partnerships, and explore potential avenues for technological transfer to benefit developing countries.

Dr Hashim added that ACReSAL Project aims to enhance the resilience and sustainability of Kano State’s urban and rural communities through the adoption of climate-smart technologies and practices.

ACReSAL is a 6-year tripartite project between the World Bank, the Federal Government, and the 19th northern states including the FCT.
