After presidential pardon, ex-lawmaker, Farouk Lawan says “God used Tinubu to show me mercy”
A Former member of the House of Representatives, Farouk Muhammad Lawan, has appreciated President Bola Tinubu for granting him a presidential pardon.
Lawan described the gesture as a divine act of mercy.
He stated this in a statement he signed personally on Thursday.
In a statement titled “My Hope Is Renewed, Mr President,” Lawan said the pardon signified a new beginning in his life and a reconciliation with destiny.
SolaceBase recalls that Farouk Lawan, jailed for seven years over bribery and corruption, spent 5 years in jail after the Supreme Court reviewed his appeal and was released from Kuje prison on October 22, 2024.
He was a former Chairman, House of Reps probe panel on oil subsidy regime, who received a bribe of $3 million bribe from oil magnate Femi Otedola.

“Mr. President has cast a warm blanket over me, pulling me back from the harshness of yesterday’s cold,” he said. “A day like this is not for a long treatise. I lie prostrate, utterly humble in my heart and entire being, grateful for the mercy which Allah (SWT), through Mr President and my country, has shown me.”
Lawan, who represented Bagwai and Shanono Federal Constituency of Kano State, said his faith in God and in the nation remained unshaken throughout his ordeal.
According to him, “During the eclipse at noon of my life, a path designed by destiny, my family, friends, and associates stood by me through thick and thin, their light became my singular unfailing beacon. I remain eternally indebted to you.’’
He said the experience had taught him lessons in humility and reflection, noting that the presidential pardon had renewed his sense of purpose.
“Throughout those moments of sober reflection, my faith in the greatness of our Fatherland never wavered, nor did my resolve to contribute to it ever weaken. A re-dedication to the ideals of Nigeria is upon me. My hope is renewed.’’
In an interview on a local radio station in Kano, he appreciated those who supported him during his trial.
He restated his commitment to continue in politics but noted that he has not made up his mind to contest for any political office.
