After SolaceBase report, Kano govt. renovates school where primary 1,2, 3 take lessons at a time in one class, 4,5, 6 in another
Over one year after SolaceBase exposed the deplorable condition of Faradaci Primary School in Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State, long-awaited intervention has finally materialized.
This is coming two months after a follow-up report on the school.
The school classrooms, once on the verge of collapse with over 500 pupils squeezed into two dilapidated classrooms, are now undergoing renovation.
The renovation followed SolaceBase’s May 2024 publication and another follow-up report on May 11, 2025, which detailed the unsafe and neglected state of the school, sparking widespread media attention and public outcry.

The report prompted the Kano State Government to approve the school’s rehabilitation.
The renovation project was executed by the Councillor representing Garfa Ward, Gaddafi Yusuf Yunusa, with the support and supervision of the state government.
Speaking to SolaceBase on Friday, the Councillor confirmed the renovation.
“Alhamdulillah, the Kano State Government under the leadership of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf approved the renovation. As councillors, we were given the mandate to select schools in our wards for rehabilitation. We chose Faradaci because its condition was worse than any other in the area,” he said.
“So far, we have renovated one of the two blocks in bad condition. The Chairman of our local government has promised to renovate the remaining block soon at the local government level.”

Community members expressed gratitude for SolaceBase‘s role in bringing attention to the school’s plight.
One resident, Mu’aruf Galadima, also confirmed the renovation to our correspondent.
“Our councillor renovated the school weeks after your second report. We can’t thank SolaceBase enough for travelling twice from Kano city to highlight our children’s learning conditions. Alhamdulillah, we’ve now achieved our goal.”

“This school was forgotten until your story brought it back to life,” he added. “Now, our children have hope again.”
The transformation represents a significant milestone for the rural school, which had long been neglected despite the state’s substantial investment in education—₦95 billion in the 2024 budget and ₦168.3 billion in the 2025 allocation, amounting to 31% of the entire state budget.
During SolaceBase’s initial visit, the school had only two usable classrooms—both crumbling, with broken walls, leaking roofs, and no floors. Other buildings were abandoned and overrun by weeds. From this reporter’s observation during the visit to the community, teachers were seen working without essential materials.
In a previous interview, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammad, admitted he was unaware of the school’s poor condition until the SolaceBase report brought it to his attention.
His acknowledgement led to a government inspection and, eventually, the renovation approval.
