Again, labour unions , Kano govt committee meeting over planned workers salary deduction end in deadlock
Organised labour meeting with Kano State Government Committee on Friday on planned salary deduction of workers for the month of March has ended in deadlock again.
Solacebase reports that the state government insisted that it cannot afford to pay the N30,000 minimum wage due to a shortfall in revenue which the labour unions vehemently disagree with.
However to reach a compromise the organized labour made some demands as preconditions to the salary deduction from the government at their last meeting on Monday which the government committee said it has no mandate to approve.
Hence the meeting was adjourned till today, Friday.
The demands include seeing the government book of accounts, the total workforce of public servants (both state and local government), actual total wage bills for state workers (both state and local government), the number of political office holders ( both state and local governments)and total wage bill for political office holders( State and local government).
Also, other demands include, the shortfall of salary payment for March 2021, Nov. and Dec. 2020 and January 2021 state deduction, Nov. and Dec. 2020 and January 2021 state and local government pensions deductions, that refund of deductions from March 2021, salaries should be with a time frame (within 3 months April to June 2021) by Kano State Government and payment of pending 8 months salary arrears and the balance of two months 50% deducted should be paid within 6 months from May-November, 2021 and deduction must cut across all workers including political office holders and all permanent secretaries.

However, at the resumed meeting of the government and labour on Friday, the state government team led by Permanent Secretary, Salary and Wages department, office of the Head of Service, Malam Sani Fani said the demands of labour is yet to be met hence the team will write a report to the main committee of the state government on Monday.
This did not go down well with the labour team led by Joint Negotiating Council Secretary, Musa Ahmadu that made it clear to the government side that they will not sign the report as it was not what they demanded.
The meeting ended without an agreement.
Solacebase gathered that the labour unions also will meet with affiliate unions on Monday to take a position on the issue as they vowed to resist workers salary deduction without the government meeting those demands.
