Al-Istiqama university announces maiden convocation, unveils major campus upgrades
One of the private universities in Kano, Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, has announced its maiden convocation ceremony which will take place on February 21 and 22, marking a significant milestone for the institution as it continues to enhance its learning environment through major infrastructural upgrades.
In a statement issued on Monday, the university’s management highlighted its commitment to academic excellence, discipline, and sustainability.
“Our goal is to bridge the gap between education and character, especially in northern Nigeria,” said Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, the Founder and Chairman of the university.
“We provide a conducive environment that enables our students to pursue their education while developing strong moral values.”

As part of its ongoing transformation, Al-Istiqama University is tarring all internal roads and installing solar-powered streetlights to improve safety and sustainability.
“We are committed to ensuring a 24/7 electricity supply by integrating solar energy with grid connections and backup generators,” the statement added.
SolaceBase reports that the institution is also upgrading its classrooms, lecture theatres, and laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities designed to support innovative teaching methods and research.
Student hostels have been renovated to provide a more comfortable and secure living environment for both male and female students.
One of the university’s key priorities remains student safety and discipline.

“We maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy towards drug abuse, and our collaboration with relevant authorities ensures that Al-Istiqama University remains one of the safest tertiary institutions in Kano State,” the management noted.
Since its establishment, the university has focused on bridging educational gaps, promoting interdisciplinary scholarship, and fostering an entrepreneurial spirit.
