Alleged Incitement: Absence of Judge stalls trial of Kano politician

The absence of  Chief Magistrate Abdulaziz Habib, on Monday, stalled the trial of a Kano-based politician, Abdulmajid Danbilki, also known as “Commander” for allegedly inciting violence while featuring on a radio programme.

Danbilki, is charged with inciting public disturbance, contrary to Section 114 of Kano State Penal Code Law.

The matter was slated for ruling on the bail application, earlier made by the defence counsel, Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi-Chedi.

He urged the court to grant the defendant bail pursuant to section 35(5) and 36 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

The matter was adjourned until March 1, due to the judge’s illness.

“The registry just informed us that the judge is not feeling fine and currently in the hospital” Abdullahi-Chedi said.

The prosecutor, Abdulsalam Saleh, alleged that the defendant sometime in January while on a radio programme and viral video called on Kano State residents to resist any attempt by the state government to revisit the issue of Kano Emirates.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. (NAN)
