Amid economic hardship, Sokoto purchases N58m vehicle for each executive council member

Sokoto state Government has spent the sum of N1.764 billion on the purchase of vehicles for 30 members of the state executive council within the first three months of 2024.
SolaceBase reports that the state budget performance documents revealed.
This means that each member of the state executive council got a vehicle worth N58 million naira.
This development comes amid calls for a cut in the cost of governance and different economic challenges facing the country, which Sokoto state is not left out.

However, Sokoto spent only N45 million on its Agricultural and Natural Resources Ministry capital expenditure in the same period of first three months of 2024, only N14 million was spent on the capital expenditure of the education ministry, health capital expenditure stood at N308 million, and ministry of environment N105m per data from budget performance documents published on the state website.
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, 52% of children in Sokoto state are deprived access to education, 60% are deprived access to sanitary facilities and 49% are deprived access to clean water.

There have been growing concerns on resource management across Nigerian states.
Monies that would have been used for development are said to be channelled towards less germane issues, leading to decay in infrastructure and continual suffering of the people.
