APC attacking opposition to mask Nigeria’s worsening hardship – Tambuwal
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has come under criticism for its response to Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s remarks on recent political defections, with the Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (AWT) Media Office describing it as an attempt to silence opposition voices and mask Nigeria’s worsening socio-economic situation.
In a statement signed on Monday, the AWT Media Office accused the ruling party of resorting to propaganda and personal attacks rather than addressing the country’s pressing issues, including economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failures.
Senator Tambuwal had recently warned about the influence of “stomach infrastructure” in driving defections to the APC, cautioning that such moves were undermining democracy.

The statement emphasized that his remarks were not just political rhetoric but a patriotic call for Nigerians to remain vigilant against coercion, enticement, and intimidation tactics allegedly employed by the ruling party to weaken the opposition.

The statement further criticized the APC’s portrayal of the defections as a result of President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, arguing that the reality for ordinary Nigerians is one of rising inflation, worsening insecurity, and increasing unemployment.
It questioned whether those defecting to the APC could genuinely claim that life had improved under the current administration.
“While the APC hides behind false narratives of economic recovery, Nigerians are grappling with hardship. Foreign reserves and trade surpluses mean little when citizens cannot afford food, shelter, and healthcare,” the statement read.
It added that Senator Tambuwal’s intervention was a necessary warning about the dangers of a one-party system, stressing that democracy thrives on robust opposition and accountable leadership.
The AWT Media Office also recalled Tambuwal’s role as a founding member of the APC during his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives, noting that the party’s initial vision had been derailed by leaders promoting “stomach infrastructure” to exploit the economic distress of vulnerable politicians.
As Nigeria faces mounting economic and security challenges, the statement urged the APC to shift its focus from attacking critics to addressing the country’s deepening crises with sincerity and competence.
