Arabic, Islamic studies teachers hold 38th annual conference in Kano

The Nigerian Association of Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies (NATAIS), has launched an Islamic Studies book on the role played by the Chief Imam of Kano emeritus Professor Sani Zahradden.

The Association made the presentation on Monday at its 38 annual national conference titled Pandemics and national security challenges: Arabic and Islamic Studies perspective, holding at Bayero University Kano.

Presenting the book, the Registrar Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said the book was published considering the contributions of Professor Muhammad Sani Zahradden towards the promotion of Islamic and Arabic studies in his life.

Solacebase reports that the three-day conference with the theme pandemic and national security in Arabic and Islamic studies will feature prominent academics to brainstorm on issues of security and pandemic in Arabic and Islamic studies perspectives.

The National President of the Association Professor Sani Umar Musa told the participants that COVID-19 prevented the conference from holding last year, noting that during his stewardship the numerical strength of the association has increased more than 700 members and some branches have also been resuscitated that include  Zamfara, Plateau and Bauchi states among others.

On his part, the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Sa’ad III, represented by the Emir of Karaye Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar II said that the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as security challenges in most northern states, are a serious setback

The Sultan urged Nigerians to intensify prayers for the country to overcome the insecurity pervading the nation.

Also, the Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, represented by the Dan Amar of Kano Alhaji Aliyu Harazimi, said the Arabic and Islamic Studies teachers have many roles to play in terms of human development.

In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Bayero University Kano Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, represented by Professor Hamman Yola of faculty of Art and Islamic Studies said the institution will continue to support the teaching of Arabic and Islamic Studies.

Highlight of the event was award presented to some personalities that include the chief Imam of Oyo Central mosque Shiek Mas’ud Abdul-Ganiy Adebayo, former vice-chancellor of University of Maiduguri professor Abubakar Mustapha, Late Professor Abdul-Lateef Mobolaji Adetona, and the Emir of Zazzau Suleja Malam Muhammad Awwal Ibrahim.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor of Kano State Alhaji Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna who represented by Malam Kabiru Ahmad Wudil Special assistant to him
