Army collaborates with media to enhance national security

The Nigerian Army has emphasized synergizing and improving communication to foster a strong relationship with the media for national security.

The Army stated this on Thursday at an event held in Kano, titled “Nigerian Army Civil-Military Cooperation Media Chat.’’

It said the event was part of the Nigerian Army’s 2024 Quarterly series.

In a keynote address, Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, emphasized that the synergy between the Nigerian Army and the media will help raise awareness of security challenges among the populace and offer insights into military endeavors.

He highlighted that the Nigerian Army’s collaboration with the press is crucial in enhancing civil-military cooperation and relations.

He added that the partnership is vital for improving understanding, strengthening partnerships, and fostering synergy, all of which are essential for ensuring the collective security and well-being of the nation.

Major General Ugbo was quoted as saying, “The theme for today’s discussion underscores the importance of harmonizing efforts between the military and the press towards our shared goals of enhancing national security.

“Effective communication, transparency, and mutual respect between the media and the Nigerian Army are essential in advancing our nation’s interests and upholding the values of democracy, accountability, and collective responsibility, he said.

Ugbo believes that by emphasizing transparency, ethical journalism, and mutual regard, the Nigerian Army and the media can garner public support for addressing security challenges and upholding national values and prosperity.

Additionally, while presenting his paper titled “Optimizing Media Collaboration for Improved Civil-Military Cooperation: An Assessment of the Nigerian Army,” Maj. Gen. Ne Angbazo (rtd) called for effective liaison between the army and the media.
