ASUU suspends two weeks warning strike at Kano varsity
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST) Wudil, branch has suspended its two weeks warning strike.
SolaceBase had reported that ASUU-KUST, Wudil declared a two-week warning strike on Wednesday 29 May, 2024 over lingering issues with the state government.
The union said, ‘’Following series of futile efforts between ASUU, KUST-Wudil with the University Administration and Kano State Government on issues pertaining the University Autonomy, condition of service, and funding among others. Despite the intervention of several stakeholders including the Zonal and National leadership of ASUU, the Kano State Government appears unwilling to address the branch demands.’’
However, in a statement issued on Saturday by ASUU-KUST, Wudil Chairperson, Dr. Aliyu Yusuf Ahmad, the union said it has suspended the strike to give room for dialogue.

The statement said,’’ Following the intervention of the Rt. Hon. Speaker Kano State House of Assembly, alongside honourable members of the House Committee on Higher Education and the intervention of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, the Branch arising from its Congress meeting dated Saturday 1st June 2024 resolved to suspend the strike action with immediate effect in order to give reasonable time for the State Government to implement the agreements reached and to give room for further consultation. The Branch appreciates the prompt intervention of the Governor and other stakeholders
