This was contained in a statement jointly signed by Chairman and Secretary, Comrade Muhammad Sani Gaya and Comrade Murtala Muhammad , Academic Staff Union of Universities, Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil (ASUU-KUST) on Thursday and sent to Solacebase.

It reaffirmed its support to the ongoing nationwide strike of the Union aimed at improving the quality of university education in the country.

‘’ASUU as a critical stakeholder in repositioning the Nigerian University System has engaged the FG severally which resulted in ASUU/FGN Agreement of 2009, MoU of 2013 and MoAs of 2017 and 2019 but unfortunately, the federal government has failed to honour the mutually and duly signed Agreements,’’ said the statement.

‘’To further worsen the quagmire, Government recently introduced a bizarre IPPIS which undermines University Autonomy and grossly incompatible with the University System.’’

‘’It is important to note that the FG has subjugated our members in University of Maiduguri and Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike into untold hardship by withholding their salaries since February, 2020 and members in other universities have their salaries stopped since July, 2020.’’

ASUU-KUST is calling on students, parents, Civil Society Organizations’ and other stakeholders to prevail on Government to fulfil its promises in addressing the issues at stake and conclude the ongoing renegotiation to avoid prolonging the ongoing strike.
