The management of Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta, has dismissed allegations that it defied directives from the Kano State Government.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing on Monday, the Provost of the College, Professor Muhammad Audu Wailare, refuted claims made by the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Northwest Zone, Dr Abdulaziz Badaru.

Professor Wailare explained that the controversy stemmed from the suspension of a lecturer, Malam Ahmad, who was accused of physically assaulting a colleague in public.

He said the disciplinary action was taken jointly by the College and the Kano State Civil Service Commission, contrary to reports suggesting the institution acted unilaterally.

He accused Dr. Badaru of attempting to tarnish the College’s reputation by misleading the public through the media. “It is not true that we defied the directives of the state government. In fact, no administration has given this College as much attention as the current government under His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf,” Wailare stated.

The Provost commended Governor Yusuf for his commitment to revitalizing the education sector, noting that the institution has continued to benefit from the administration’s support and reforms.

SolaceBase recalls that the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Northwest Zone, had earlier accused the management of Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta, of disregarding a directive by the Kano State Government to reinstate the chairman of the college’s ASUP branch, Malam Ahmad Haruna Muhammad, who was previously removed from office.

ASUP explained that the state government, through the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Higher Education, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, had ordered Ahmad’s reinstatement after investigations cleared him of wrongdoing and established that due process was not followed in his suspension.

The union stressed that it values its cordial relationship with the Kano State Government, particularly its commitment to the welfare of lecturers and the improvement of teaching facilities. However, it vowed not to relent in pressing for compliance with government directives and renewed its call on the college to reinstate the suspended lecturer in line with the state’s decision.
