Bandits abduct traditional leader, farmers in Kaduna

Bandits have reportedly abducted the village head of Tunburku in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Malam Ashiru Sherehu.

Sherehu was said to have been kidnapped while he was returning from his farm on Saturday.

Bandits has been terrorising the town,  a part of the Fatika district in recent times.

According to Ahmadu, a resident of the area, farmers are unable to access their farms situated a few kilometres from the town due to fear of being killed or abducted.

Hussaini Umar, a traditional leader in the community and Sarkin Fadan Galadimawa, confirmed the incident, stating that the village head was abducted around 5:00 pm on Saturday.

“He was returning from his farm around Tunburku area when he was stopped by the bandits and they took him away. We are yet to hear from his abductors; they have not contacted us,” he said.

According to Hussaini, two other farmers were abducted in Sabon Layi under Kidandan Ward while working on their farms on Sunday afternoon.

He explained that villagers who witnessed the incident were unable to intervene as the bandits were armed.

Umar lamented that farmers were being hunted by bandits.

He commended the efforts of the soldiers deployed to the area but appealed to the government to send more security personnel as the insecurity situation worsened.

The Kaduna State Police Command has not reacted to the incident. Calls made to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, were not answered.
