Bandits reportedly kill abducted Sokoto traditional leader

The Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District in Sokoto State, Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa in Sokoto State has been reportedly brutally killed by bandits after being abducted, tortured, and dehumanised.

This week, the emir was seen in a video asking the Sokoto state government to pay the bandits the ransom they demanded, saying that if the deadline is not met, they will kill him.

Three weeks ago, the bandits kidnapped the emir at Kwanar Maharba area when he was on his way back home after attending a meeting in Sokoto town.

In his interview with the BBC, Shuaibu Gwanda Gobir, who is the district head of Gobir said that the news was enough for them that the kidnappers killed the emir on Tuesday.

“The news I got is that the bandits shot him yesterday [Tuesday] afternoon, and those who went to discuss the payment of the ransom saw the emir’s body lying there,” he said.

He added that as of this moment, they had not received the deceased’s body yet.
