Bangladesh seeks partnership with ABU

The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, Amb. Miah MD Mainul Kabir has visited Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, to explore areas of institutional partnership.

Malam Auwalu Umar, Director, Public Affairs Directorate of the university, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Zaria.

Kabir, who paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, said it was an honour to visit the institution and seek collaboration in various areas of mutual interest.

The envoy, who was accompanied by a Bangladeshi Minister, MD Faruk Hussain, said both Bangladesh and Nigeria shared a common goal of youth empowerment.

Also on the entourage was the President of the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KADCCIMA), Farouk Sulaiman, alongside other officials.

Kabir said Bangladesh had strong capacities in textiles, medical sciences and agriculture, particularly rice production, which could enhance knowledge exchange and joint research with ABU.

He added that the delegation also interacted with the students to understand their interests and areas of academic focus.

Responding,  Ahmed, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Bello Sabo, expressed delight over the proposed collaboration.

He said such partnerships would help advance the vision of the university’s founding fathers.

The vice-chancellor identified the Department of Textile Technology, the university’s agricultural complex and the College of Medical Sciences as key areas for possible collaboration.

He said that a committee would be constituted to identify specific areas of partnership, with a view to signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).(NAN)
