Barau Jibrin deserves to be next senate president-Isa Tijjani
By Comrade Isa Tijjani
As one of the founding fathers of the Labour Party I made my preference for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be the President of Nigeria from the onset and it came to pass, he is today the President elect.
I am once again putting forward the name of Senator Barau Jibrin to be the next Senate President for the 10th Nationala Assembly for several reasons. The Senate President the third in the hierarchy of the leadership of Nigeria requires a dynamic personality, eloquent, honest, fearless, intelligent and a team player. It requires someone with empathy, sympathy, care and carrying people along. .
Barau is from the North West the region and Kano to be precise that gave the highest vote in the elections. South West have the President, North East has the Vice President why should North West not have the Senate President?
Some have a faulty believe that it should go to the South East, this is not a game of regional sharing but a game of elections. Here, its votes that count, what is the numerical votes of both South East and South South in the just concluded election?
In the state of Kano APC lost to NNPP, In the absence of a Governor from a ruling party the best is to have the position of Senate President to continue galvanizing support for the ruling party. The desire for Barau to be the Senate President transcends his personal ambition it is the desire of the entire region as a mark of honor to his credible performance to his people.

Let me refresh the minds of those that cling to the issue of religion, during the tenure of President Obasanjo there was a litany of Christians in leadership and no one complained. President Obasanjo Christian, Gen David Mark Senate President. Chief Ekweremadu Deputy Senate President. Madam Patricia Ette Speaker of the House of Representative heavens did not fall.
Barau has a magnificent resume. A one time House of Rep member a Senator holding sensitive position of Appropriation committee Chairmanship. He, North West and people of the region should be given the chance to lead.
I want to use this piece as an introduction to this noble call and objective. I call on our people to support this gentleman. In the coming days I shall furnish you with more reasons on this objective. Expect more.
