Bauchi sacks judge over misconduct

Bauchi State Judicial Service Commission has dismissed a Shari’a Court Judge, Umar Ibrahim for alleged gross misconduct.

The dismissed judge served at Jalam Shari’ah Court in Dambam local government area of the state.

In a statement made available to reporters in Bauchi, on Wednesday, the chairman of the commission, Dr Ibrahim Danjuma said the decision was in line with the commission’s mandate to ensure that all judicial officers adhere to ethical and professional conduct.

The statement said that the alleged misconducts for which the judge was disengaged violated the code of ethics and principles governing the judiciary.

‘’The actions taken were expected to maintain and sustain public confidence in the judicial system, ‘’the statement said.

According to the statement, the Judicial Service Commission has also introduced promotion exams for staff members from grade level 8 and above to test staff knowledge of the law, judicial processes, ethical standards and understanding of their roles in the judiciary.
