BUK alumni association launches official website, unveils development plans at 35th AGM
The Bayero University Kano Alumni Association (BUKAA) has officially launched its dedicated alumni website, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at uniting graduates and enhancing communication among past students of the institution.
Speaking at the association’s 35th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Saturday in Kano, the Chairman of BUKAA, Alhaji Shuaibu Idris, described the website’s unveiling as a historic milestone.
He emphasized its strategic role in connecting alumni across different generations.
“To the best of my knowledge, this is the first of its kind in Nigeria, an alumni association having its own dedicated website,” Alhaji Idris said.
“The website will enable us to connect with fellow alumni more easily, regardless of when we graduated.”

He further explained the website’s purpose as a comprehensive platform for networking, donations, and alumni support.
“If I left the university in 1980 and I’m looking for someone I studied with, the website will make it easier to find them. It also makes it easier for us to give back to the university or support fellow alumni in need.”
In addition to this digital innovation, Alhaji Idris outlined several development projects that the association has embarked upon during its 18-month leadership.

SolaceBase reports that these include contributions to water supply infrastructure, particularly at the university’s new site, sanitation projects to build modern conveniences for students across campuses, and the establishment of a substantial endowment fund.

Preparations are currently underway to launch a trillion-naira endowment fund, aimed at providing sustainable financial support for the university and its alumni community. “We are just 18 months into this leadership, and we’ve already achieved so much,” Alhaji Idris added. “With Almighty Allah’s grace, we believe we will succeed in all our plans, including the endowment fund.”
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Haruna Musa, expressed his gratitude to Senator Ibrahim Shekarau for attending the event.
He acknowledged Shekarau’s significant contributions to both the university and the country.
Prof. Musa proudly identified himself as a fellow alumnus, having graduated in 1991. He praised the leadership of BUKAA and highlighted the critical need for ongoing collaboration between the university administration and the alumni association.
“My office is always open to the association whenever the need arises,” the Vice-Chancellor said. “Bayero University is doing well, currently ranked 6th among Nigerian universities. We will continue to identify areas where funding can benefit the institution and take the university to even greater heights.”
Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, who chaired the occasion, expressed appreciation to BUKAA for organizing the event and bringing alumni together.
He congratulated the association’s leadership, especially the president, for their dedication.

While recognizing the progress made, Senator Shekarau emphasized the need for the association to do more by including all former students in its activities. “There are still important challenges ahead,” he said. “We must ensure that all alumni are actively engaged and united.”
He advised the association to work closely with the university management, using the existing alumni network to identify the university’s most pressing needs so that the association can make meaningful contributions.
Senator Shekarau also urged the alumni to extend their reach across Nigeria. “The association should go round all regions of the country to identify and mobilize former students. This will strengthen our ability to give back to the university that shaped our future.”
