BUK Inducts 68 Newly Qualified Medical Doctors

68 newly qualified medical doctors of Bayero University, Kano, have been inducted as certified practitioners.

The young doctors who promised, under oath, to uphold the highest dignity to human life and ethical standard, were also certified by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

Addressing the new doctors at the 19th induction ceremony of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) held at the old campus of the university Thursday, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mohammad Yahuza Bello applauded the giant stride of the grandaunts to attain the high fit of their dreams in life.

Professor Bello said the new doctors were found worthy in academic excellence, character and learning, reminding the inductees to always demonstrate diligent and reputable conduct, that will do the university and society proud.

Represented by Director, Academic Planning, Dr Bala Sidi Aliyu, the VC disclosed that the university’s plan to commence veterinary medicine and the unveiling of diagnostic laboratory centre just as he assured management support to faculty of Medicine and Sciences, to sustain academic excellence.

Registrar, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr Tajudeen Sanusi who administer oath and affirmation pledge, warned the doctors to adhere to code of ethics and respect the sanctity of life.

According to him, “With this oath, you are accepting the call to service and after the induction, you are on your own and you are responsible for your actions and inaction. As medical officers, you are expected to stay clue to your consultants. You are not members of resident doctors; meaning, you are not expected to join any strike in the hospital. But if you chose to join, you must be ready to face the consequences”.

In his wise counsel, a Professor and Consultant Pediatrics, Munthesir Ibrahim emphasized on effective communication skill and techniques, doctors should adopt to ensure quality health delivery to patients.

Professor Munthesir while explaining the responsibility of doctors to patients which include the ability to explain medical conditions and alternative treatment in simple language, cautioned against unwholesome attitude.

” Your patients have the right to be treated with dignity and respect. Patients also reserved the right to be educated about their medical conditions, offer explanations where necessary and alternative or options for their consideration. Patients also have the right to seek legal action against doctors in any case of negligence.
