BUK student slumps, dies as management expresses grief

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has announced the death of one of its students, Ameh Lawrence Ihotu, a 100-level student in the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Computing.

The deceased was said to have slumped and was rushed to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, Kano, where he was confirmed dead on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

This development was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba.

According to the statement, the deceased elder brother, Ameh Ibeh Edeh, a student in the Department of Biochemistry, reported the incident to the University authorities.

SolaceBase reports that the University Management expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death, describing Ihotu as a young and promising student who had just begun his academic journey.

The statement added that the University had contacted the bereaved family and expressed its condolences.

It also confirmed that arrangements were underway, in line with the family’s request, to transport the deceased’s body to his hometown in Orokam, Benue State, for burial.

The University reiterated its commitment to the health, safety, and general welfare of all students, and assured that efforts would be intensified to strengthen support systems and emergency response within the campus.

The University community, classmates, friends, and family were all urged to take solace in the legacy left behind by the late student, while prayers were offered for the repose of his soul.
