BUK students eulogise Sen. Barau as 1,052 get scholarships  

Students of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) have hailed the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, for awarding scholarships to 1,052 undergraduate students from the 13 local government areas of the Kano North Senatorial District.

SolaceBase reports that the scholarship scheme was flagged off at the Convocation Arena of BUK on Tuesday. Each beneficiary received N50,000 to support their studies in various academic fields.

Recall that another 1,000 students who benefited from Senator Barau’s undergraduate scholarship were matriculated on Monday at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State.

‘’Expressing her joy, a beneficiary, Rukayya Yusuf Adam, a 400-level student, expressed gratitude to Senator Barau,’’ the statement said.

“We are grateful for this. This is not the first time we are benefiting from Senator Barau’s scholarship. He has been supporting us consistently every year,” she said, praying for the lawmaker.

Also speaking, the President of Kano North Students, BUK Chapter, Comrade Lawal Salisu Gwarzo, described Senator Barau as “the father of Nigerian students.”

Senator Barau, represented by his Chief of Staff, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdullah, said the initiative reflects his commitment to educational development and youth empowerment.

A statement by Senator Barau’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, said the scholarship will be extended to all Kano North students studying in tertiary institutions across the country.

“Each of the students of BUK from Kano North Senatorial District will receive N50,000, courtesy of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin. This gesture is not only for BUK students; every student from Kano North studying in Nigeria will benefit from this scheme. The interventions of Senator Barau in the area of education cannot be overemphasised,” he said.

He listed some of the recent interventions of Senator Barau in education to include sponsorship of  70 postgraduate students to study abroad, scholarships for 1,000 undergraduate students at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma and scholarships for 300 doctoral students in Nigeria, among others.

He urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the opportunity by working hard and excelling in their academic pursuits.
