CAJA confers integrity award on Police officer who rejected $200,000 bribe

The Police officer who rejected $200,000, bribe,  ACP Daniel Amah has been conferred with Integrity Award by the Centre for Awareness on Justice and Accountability (CAJA).

SOLACEBASE reports that Amah, was awarded at a public lecture on Wednesday with the theme: “Promoting integrity as a way of fighting corruption” and award ceremony held in Kano by the Centre for Awareness on Justice and Accountability (CAJA) in collaboration with The Penlight Centre

The former Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nassarawa station, Bompai Division in Kano, was recently promoted from Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) after his celebrated bribe refusal of the huge foreign currency by criminals.

The young police officer in April 2022, reportedly rejected an offer of $200,000 to suppress a criminal investigation involving one Ali Zaki who allegedly arranged armed robbers to trail and rob a Bureau D’ Change operator of $750, 000.

Daniel Amah was honoured with a national award for his exemplary act.

Earlier, delivering his welcome remarks, the Executive Director, CAJA, Kabiru Sa’idu Dakata said, the event is centred towards celebrating someone every Nigerian needs to emulate and to promote the course of shunning corruption at all cost.

“Corruption is winning because it is no longer a debate who is corrupt today in the country. It is at this kind of moment when we are chasing corruption that corruption knocks at the door of this person and that person rejected it.

“We want to amplify a good story of something good that happened. As CSO, as we name and shame, we name and praise also.

“We want to debunk the widely believe that an average police officer in Nigeria is corrupt. We want to change this perception. Thousands are clean and credible in discharging their duties and reawakening lost hope of having a better tomorrow.”

Speaking at the event, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali represented by DCP Mukhtar Abubakar Zubair said, contrary to widely believe in the police, the force is glad that good spirited officers are changing the perception.

“We have a lot of Daniel in the Nigerian police force, just that they are not recognised and I am appealing to the people, please, don’t try to corrupt us. Allow and help us serve you and the country better.

“We eschew corruption in all its ramifications and have zero tolerance to that. We don’t condone the act and we show everyone among us found wanting, the way out by dismissal and prosecution.”
