These comments encapsulate two essential facets of his life: his intense love of intellectual pursuits and his everlasting commitment to academics and community service.
The idea that there is never a “wrong” time to act in a way that is just and advantageous to society has been embodied by Professor Saliu throughout his career. His unwavering dedication as a scholar, advisor, and leader is evident in his contributions to governance and policy, which in particular demonstrate his firm belief that there is never a bad time to take action for the benefit of others.
Professor Saliu’s professional accomplishments and academic background demonstrate his deep passion for political science and education. His remarkable collection of nearly 400 publications in political science and international affairs, as well as his 1987 graduation as the top overall student from Bayero University in Kano, demonstrate that his effort is driven by a sincere love for his subject rather than obligations.

Professor Saliu was born on Saturday, December 22, 1962, and his life has been characterized by unwavering dedication to quality and constant work. He puts in endless effort, around the clock, to make a significant contribution to society, academics, and governance.
He started his academic career with great success, graduating from Bayero University in 1987 as the top student. Due to his insatiable curiosity, he attended Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife to earn a master’s degree. He then went on to Bayero University to earn a doctorate, which he did with honours in 1995. His intellectual prowess was evident from the beginning, and his contributions to political science have since grown to be enormous.
Before relocating to the University of Ilorin, where he would make a lasting impression, Professor Saliu started his teaching career in 1990 at the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna. He held important positions including Dean of the Faculty, Coordinator of Professional Programs, and Head of the Department of Political Science, demonstrating his leadership and teaching prowess. His dedication to academic achievement, ingenuity, and administrative effectiveness characterized his leadership.

Professor Saliu is one of Nigeria’s most prolific political scientists, having published about 400 works. But his mentoring may be his most enduring legacy. His steadfast dedication to fostering the next generation of scholars is demonstrated by the fact that several of his mentees have gone on to become professors themselves.
