CITAD honors outstanding investigative journalists

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has honored winners of journalists for accountability competition with Laptops, cameras and other gifts.

During the presentation of the gift items on Thursday in Kano, CITAD Program Officer, Malam Muhammad Buhari said the organization has been partnering with journalists to ensure transparency and accountability in the public sector.

SOLACEBASE recalls that on 25th May, 2022, CITAD organized a three day training for 20 selected journalists and they submitted proposals and were given investigative reportorial training, after which a review was conducted by a team of Judges where 10 Journalists successfully emerged as the recipient of the grant.”

Buhari said after selecting best six reports out of ten, CITAD uploaded the reports on social media platforms for public voting, in which after two weeks of the exercise, three journalists emerged winners.

They are  Ismail Auwal Garba of Sahelian Times, Anibe Idajili of TheCable and Rabiu Musa, HotPen.

The Program Officer noted that the sub-grant is an encouragement to improve the capacity of journalists to investigate and report corrupt practices at the grassroots level through a competitive process as a way of holding public officials to account.

He added that investigating corrupt practices both in public and private establishments by journalists will improve the quality of life, especially in the vulnerable communities that do not have the voice to fight the menace of the system.

Rabi’u Musa, one of the winners, expressed gratitude over the gesture and encouraged other journalists to put more effort in their various endeavor.

The competition was organized by CITAD with support from MacArthur Foundation.
