CITAD, RLF organise review session for four research findings in Kano

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), in collaboration with the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation (RLF), on Tuesday organised a roundtable discussion at Bayero University Kano, aimed at fostering intellectual engagement through reviews of research books and documents by academicians.

SolaceBase reports that the event featured four speakers include Prof. Bello Ibrahim, Dr. Kabiru Sufi, Dr. Baffa Kabiru Gwadabe and Dr. Ruqayyah Yusuf Aliyu. Each speaker analysed and made corrections on one of the four research documents.

The first document focused on domestic work conditions in Northwest Nigeria, highlighting key issues such as abuse and stakeholder involvement.

The second provided insights into how conflict and restrictions affect women in Bwari and Enugu. The third document explored Nigeria’s economic struggles after COVID-19. The fourth examined the farmers-herders crises, emphasizing their impact on the quality of life for women and girls.

Prof. Bello Ibrahim, represented by Dr Hassan Ahmad Hassan, focused on “Experiences and conditions of domestic workers in Northern Nigeria” he highlighted the widespread human rights abuses in the document: physical abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse and food abuse, as well-made correction on areas of mistake and gaps made by the researcher. Dr. Kabiru Sufi complemented this by addressing “The effects of Bwari conflict and Enugu sit-at-home on women” he reviewed the document on the cause of conflict in Bwari, how it was curbed and as well the effect of sit-at-home on women in Enugu state.

Meanwhile, Dr Baffa Kabiru Gwadade delved into Nigeria’s economy after COVID-19, highlighted the economic challenges faced in Nigeria after the pandemic, made corrections to the research document, and Dr. Ruqayyah Yusuf Aliyu concluded with a comprehensive analysis and corrections on the research document “the impact of farmers-herder crises on the quality of life and women and girls in IDP camps in North Central Nigeria”.

Participants actively engaged with the speakers, raising questions about the “Experience and conditions of domestic workers”.

The session chairperson, Prof. Abdullahi Maikano Madaki said aside from physical abuse and others, there are health abuses, cleanliness and hygiene etc.

The roundtable underscored the relevance of the reviewed research and brought out areas of improvement and negligence by the researchers. Organizers hinted at deepening intellectual discourse and promoting knowledge-sharing.
