Kano: Commissioner withdraws suretyship for notorious drug suspect, Danwawu
The Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, has formally withdrawn his suretyship for a suspected notorious drug dealer, Suleiman Danwawu, in an ongoing criminal case before the Federal High Court in Kano.
The case, titled Federal Republic of Nigeria vs. Sulaiman Aminu (Charge No. FHC/KN/CR/93/2025), involves allegations of drug-related offences.

SolaceBase had earlier reported that Commissioner Namadi stood as a surety for the defendant. However, Ibrahim Namadi on Friday officially withdrew from that role through a letter submitted to the Deputy Registrar of the court.
The letter, which was obtained by SolaceBase on Friday, outlines his decision.

In the letter, the Commissioner cited personal reasons, along with the need to protect his integrity and uphold the dignity of his office as a public official.
He explained that his initial decision to act as surety was made at his own discretion, motivated by humanitarian considerations.
Recalls that on May 21, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, filed eight-count charges bordering on drug trafficking at the Federal High Court, Kano, against Mr Danwawu.
After arraignment on May 28, the case was adjourned to June 16 for the hearing of the bail application. The accused was subsequently remanded in prison custody.
Considering the public interest generated by the case, the Kano branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, had announced its intention to closely monitor the trial of Mr Danwawu.
