Constitution Review: Senate reschedules northwest zonal public hearing for next week
The Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution has rescheduled its North West Zonal Public Hearing to July 18 and 19, 2025.
SolaceBase reports that the hearing, which will now take place in Kano, was earlier slated for July 4 and 5 but was postponed in honour of late elder statesman, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, who passed away on June 28.
The announcement was made during Wednesday’s plenary by Senator Barau Jibrin, the committee chairman, who also presided over the session.
He urged stakeholders and members of the public across the North West zone to participate actively in the hearing and present their views on constitutional amendments.

“This is an opportunity for Nigerians to shape the future of our nation by contributing to the review process. I encourage all stakeholders to take advantage of this chance to express their aspirations and concerns,” the chairman said.
Meanwhile, during the same plenary, the Senate passed six bills for first reading, including the Armed Forces Comfort Fund Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (SB. 880), which was sponsored by the committee chairman.
In addition, three bills scaled through second reading. They include a bill to establish the Federal College of Education, Illo, sponsored by Senator Yahaya Abubakar Abdullahi (Kebbi North); a bill to amend the Electricity Act, 2023, sponsored by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South); and a bill seeking the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic for Skills and Vocational Studies, Mbeke Ishieke, Ebonyi State, sponsored by Senator Onyeka Peter Nwebonyi (Ebonyi North).
The Senate also deliberated on a motion concerning the operations of Ponzi schemes in the country, with specific attention to the recent Crypto Bullion Exchange (CBEX) scandal.
The motion was jointly sponsored by Senator Mikhail Adetokunbo Abiru (Lagos East) and Senator Osita Bonaventure Izunaso (Imo West).
