A former aide to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Comrade Musbau Esinrogunjo, has been sentenced to nine months imprisonment by a Kwara State High Court.
Esinrogunjo was found guilty for obstructing a police officer and disturbing public peace.
The judgment was delivered by Justice E. B. Muhammed after a trial that lasted over three years.
Esinrogunjo, who is presently a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was represented by Barr Kehinde Eleja (SAN) in the case.

SolaceBase had reported that Esinrogunjo, a Special Assistant on Rural Mobilisation to Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in March 2022, was caught committing a traffic offense by driving against traffic, thereby causing a serious traffic hold-up at the NYSC Secretariat junction, Ahmadu Bello Way, Ilorin.
According to the Kwara Police Command’s Spokesperson, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, in a statement,
“The traffic warden on duty who arrested him for the offence was dealt a slap by Mr Esinrogunjo and his aide, which drew the anger of passersby around the vicinity. They attempted to physically assault him but for the prompt arrival of police officers who rescued and took the parties to the police Headquarters, the closest police Formation to the scene.
The former governor’s aide was found guilty of interfering with lawful police duties and engaging in conduct capable of causing a breach of peace.
He was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment without the option of a fine for obstructing a police officer, identified during the trial as Sergeant James, while carrying out his lawful duties.
He was also handed an additional six-month jail term for disturbing public peace, with an option of a N2,000 fine in lieu of the six-month sentence.
The prosecution presented four witnesses, including the police officer who was impeded by the convict, before concluding the case.
Esinrogunjo is also facing charges in connection with a separate rape allegation involving a 15-year-old girl, Aishat Kamardeen.
The charge, instituted by the Kwara State Government, alleges unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.
On Wednesday in court, Esinrogunjo’s lawyer, Barrister Oyeyipo from J.S Bamgboye (SAN), requested time until June to study an amended process filed in the case.
The court however, refused, noting that it was a criminal matter requiring prompt attention.
The rape case was adjourned to March 21 before Justice Funsho Lawal, while Esinrogunjo was returned to prison.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mohammed Akande, appeared for the state government in both cases.
