A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has refused a faction of the NNPP seeking an order to stop the state local government election scheduled for October 26^th, 2024.

SolaceBase reports that the plaintiffs in the suit, NNPP and Engr. Muhammad Babayo while the defendants are INEC, Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, Inspector General of Police and Director General, Department of Security Service,  

The plaintiffs are seeking the court to grant an order stopping the election pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice.

Also, they want the court to direct both sides of the parties to maintain status quo, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

Similarly, the plaintiffs urged the court to grant such further orders as it deems fit to make in the circumstances of the case.

However, in his ruling on Wednesday, after listening to Barr. Dalhatu Shehu Usman and Ibrahim Salihu Paki, Counsel to the plaintiffs, the presiding Judge, Justice Simon A.  Amobeda refused the prayers directing that the respondents should urgently be put on notice to show cause why these prayers should not be granted.

, Justice S.A  Amobeda ordered that the hearing of the suit is hereby abridged to 72 hours from the service of the order of the court and the processes and that the time of filing of all other subsequent processes by the parties is equally abridged to 48 hours from the service of the same.

The case was later adjourned to October 16^th, 2024.
