COVID-19: Group Petitions Police, Demands Investigation On Kano Index Case


A group of youths under the auspices of Kungiyar Matasan Kano Advocacy Organization has petitioned the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Zone one on what the group termed as an indiscriminate breaking of the law, sabotage and attempt at spreading of the deadly coronavirus in Kano state.

The petition signed by the group’s Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) Comrade Alhassan Haruna Dambatta stated that the essence of the petition letter is to demand an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this issue in order to establish or otherwise of any case of recklessness, sabotage intentional desecration of the law by the said index COVID-19 patient in Kano, in the person of Ambassador Kabiru Rabi’u Dansitta.

It added that the demand came up because residents of the state, on the other hand, hold different opinion associated with the index patient’s actual day of arrival and his intentional refusal to disclose his travel history to all the hospitals he visited within the period and most especially when he was categorically asked by the Prime Specialist Clinic’s doctor as clarified by the medical practitioner.

The petition also stated that, whilst the state governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje informed the state residents during the announcement that the index patient in the person of Ambassador Kabiru Rabiu Dansitta came into Kano on the 25th March 2020 two days before the lockdown order was issued on the

27th March 2020, it added that this generated various hypothetical opinions by the residents which who believe that the truth must be established on the claims whether the index case was never protected being a chieftain of the ruling party in the state.

“This case absorbed various opinions and attention, hence will require an unbiased and timely investigation so as to establish or otherwise of any case of indiscriminate desecration of the law and hereby called on you to investigate as to establish why he withheld information to the Doctor about his real health status and travel history as well as to establish whether the NCDC tracking was conducted because his sample was taken for a test in Abuja,” said the petition.

A copy of the petition was sent to Governor of Kano state, Speaker Kano state House of Assembly, AIG zone one Kano, Director State Security Service as well as the Attorney General, Kano State.
