Crisis as factional NNPP rejects suspension of four federal lawmakers in Kano

The factional leadership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), led by Senator Mas’ud El Jibril Doguwa, has denied the reported suspension of four National Assembly members, insisting that the decision lacks legitimacy.

SolaceBase reports that on Monday a faction of the party led by Hashimu Dungurawa announced the suspension of Senator Kawu Sumaila (Kano South), as well as House of Representatives members Kabiru Alhassan Rurum (Rano/Kibiya), Ali Madakin Gini (Dala), and Abdullahi Sani Rogo (Rogo/Karaye), over alleged anti-party activities.

However, in a swift reaction, Doguwa faction dismissed the purported suspension, stating that Dungurawa lacked the authority to take such action.

“The party did not suspend anybody. Hashimu Dungurawa acted ignorantly. If such a decision must be taken, I must be the one to do so.”

Citing the party’s constitution, Doguwa emphasized that the affected lawmakers are members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), and no lower organ of the party has the right to suspend them.

“I want people to understand that Kwankwasiyya is a group, not a political party, and these lawmakers have already left Kwankwasiyya. However, they remain members of the NNPP.”

He reaffirmed that as far as his faction of the NNPP is concerned, Kwankwasiyya leader Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has been dismissed, while Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains suspended.

Senator Mas’ud El Jibril Doguwa called on the party members to remain calm as they are working to unite and stabilise the party.
