Crisis hits Kano NNPP as federal lawmaker clashes with gov’s aide
A crisis has erupted within the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State as a federal lawmaker, Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, representing Dawakin Tofa, Tofa, and Rimin Gado Federal Constituency, has openly criticized Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director-General of Media and Publicity to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf over his political romance with the family of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
SolaceBase reports that in a viral video, over the weekend, Jobe called on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to caution his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, over his alleged alliance with Ganduje’s family in Dawakin Tofa.
He described the relationship as a potential threat to the unity and success of the NNPP in the state.
“I am calling on the Kano State Governor, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf—if you will continue to work with Sunusi Bature as your spokesperson, and he returns here to Dawakin Tofa to form alliances with Abba Ganduje, Ganduje’s son, and Gwaggo (Ganduje’s wife)—then this must be addressed,” Jobe said.

He added, “If Sunusi Bature is truly a member of the NNPP, he should stop making party members leave and stop praising Abba Ganduje.”

The political tension intensified after Sunusi Bature responded to Jobe’s comments via his verified Facebook page, signalling the beginning of a public confrontation.
“Tell Hon. Jobe that if he wants a fight, I am ready. I swear I am no longer afraid of him—he knows that better than anyone,” Bature wrote in Hausa, directly challenging the lawmaker.
Bature also stressed the importance of accountability among elected officials, saying leadership should be rooted in service, not personal interests.
“My respect for him is based on his duty to serve the people who elected him. Their rights are in his hands to protect and uphold. Anyone chosen to represent us must fulfill the people’s mandate,” he stated.
The lawmaker was previously a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before defecting to the NNPP ahead of the 2023 elections.
Jobe’s defection followed allegations that then-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje manipulated the APC ticket in favour of his son, Abba Ganduje.
Recall that while running under the NNPP, Jobe secured a victory over Abba Ganduje, winning 52,457 votes to 44,809.
