The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, arrived at the Kano State Government House for the annual Hawan Nasarawa in a convoy of cars, deviating from the traditional horseback procession.
SolaceBase had reported that the Police, with other security agencies on Friday banned durbar activities, citing security concerns.
This decision was prompted by security barricades set up along the state road leading to the Government House, as the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero’s Sallah event at the Gidan Sarki Nasarawa is taking place, just a few kilometers away from the government house.
Traditionally, the Emir of Kano’s entourage rides horses from Kofar Kudu along Emir’s Palace Road to Kofar Nasarawa, traversing the state road to the Government House. The Emir often makes a ceremonial stop at the Nasarawa Palace before proceeding.

Despite these changes, the Emir’s motorcade was cheered on by a joyous crowd as it made its way to the Government House.
However, this year’s procession witnessed a significant change.
An itinerary released by the Kano Emirate detailed the alternate route taken by Emir Sanusi II. From Kofar Kudu, he proceeded through Sabuwar Kofa, BUK Road, Zaria Road, Gadar Lado, and Tarauni Junction before arriving at the Government House.
The return route, as outlined by the Kano Emirate, shows that from the Government House, the Emir will follow Lodge Road to Nasarawa Hospital, then to Bank Road, Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Fagge, Kofar Mata, Shahuci, and finally arrive at Kofar Fatalwa in the Emir’s Palace.

The decision was met with mixed reactions from people, with some expressing concern over the disruption of cultural heritage, while others commended the Emir for prioritizing safety amidst the heightened security situation.
