Did Rotimi Akeredolu’s widow re-marry late spouse’s younger brother? Here’s what we found

The social media was agog last week after a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Nigeria Stories claimed Betty Akeredolu, the widow of the late former Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has remarried his younger brother, Professor Wole Akeredolu

The viral post was accompanied by a screenshot from Mrs Akeredolu’s Instagram post. In the blink of an eye, it generated over 100 retweets and over 500 likes.

Findings by SolaceBase however, shows that the picture was from the traditional ceremony was organised at Emeabiam Community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, for the widow of former governor the demise of her husband.

The customary Igbo practice is performed after the death of a woman’s husband to determine if she will remain with her husband’s family or return to her own family.

Since the two families agreed that Mrs Akeredolu should remain in her husband’s house, she was handed over to the immediate younger brother of her late husband, Professor Wole Akeredolu, by Herbert Igbo representing Umuegeolu Kingdom.

Hence, the post claiming Akeredolu widow remarried his late husband’s younger brother is clear misrepresentation of what actually transpired during the ceremony and it lacks substantive evidence.
