A renowned businessman and traditional titleholder in the Kano Emirate, Dr Mohammed Hassan Koguna (Durbin Kano), has passed away at 87 after a protracted illness at a hospital in Abuja.
His son, Hon. Nasiru H. Koguna, announced his death on Saturday in a statement.
It said: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father. May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and comfort our family during this difficult time.”
The statement said the Janaiza prayer is scheduled for 10 a.m. today, Saturday, at the Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu.

He served as the Chairman of Koguna and Babura Insurance Brokers Limited.
He was Honorary Consul, Republic of Turkey, responsible for 19 Northern States; Director/Adviser, British Caledonian Airways 1982-85; Director, Kapita! Insurance Co. Ltd, 1985-96, Chairman of Board, Electricity Meter Co. Ltd, 1985-2001; Chairman, Continental Reinsurance Ltd. 1985-2001; member Prerogative of Mercy, Kano State, 1970-75; Kano State Hotels Management Board, 1976-79; Councillor, Kano Emirate Council, 1976-77;
Fellow Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, The Nigerian Corporation of Registered Insurance Brokers, West African Insurance Institute, Faculty of Risk Management Nigerian Institute Management, Institute of Management Consultants and Paul Harris Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

Koguna was Chairman Kano State Golf Association, President, Kano Golf Club and Rotary Club of Bompai
He had a degree in Economics from Eastern Mediterranean University, Cyprus, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Finance and Management from Loughborough University, UK.
