EFCC launches probe as operative commits suicide

An operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has committed suicide at his residence in Abuja.

The identity of the operative, who died on Monday, has not been revealed, save that the deceased was a member of Course 5 of the anti-graft agency’s academy.

EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, while confirming the incident, on Tuesday told journalists that an investigation was underway to “ascertain the circumstances surrounding the sad incident”.

Mr Oyewale added that the agency has been exploring possible factors, including mental health issues and family challenges, that may have contributed to the operative taking his life.

He insisted that the Commission would not issue any statement or release the identity of the officer until conclusion of the investigation.
