Emirship Tussle: Strike stalls court sitting in Kano

The nationwide strike over minimum wage embarked upon by organised labour has affected the sitting of the Federal High Court in Kano on the restraining order on the reinstatement of Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II as Emir.

SolaceBase had reported that a Federal High Court in Kano last Thursday issued an order stopping the Kano State Government from enforcing the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Law.

Justice Mohammed Liman granted the order in an application by Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba of the Kano Emirate.

The judge ruled, “That parties are hereby ordered to maintain status quo ante the passage and assent of the bill into law pending the hearing of the fundamental rights application.

“That in view of the constitutional and jurisdictional issues apparent on the face of the application, parties shall address the court on same at the hearing of the fundamental rights application which is fixed for the 3rd of June, 2024.

However, when SolaceBase was at the court on Monday the gate was locked and there was no activities of the court sitting.

A credible source at the court told SolaceBase that the court has sent link to parties in the suit as the case would go on virtually by 12.00 noon today, Monday.
