Forget mischief makers, my empowerment conducted before naira redesign policy-Lawmaker

PRESS RELEASE

The attention of the general public is swayed recently over the outright false and orchestrated misrepresentation of facts circulating in some online media outfits which has since started damaging the reputation of our principal. Hon. Sani Ma’aruf Nass (Mai Wake) the Member, representing Minjibir/Ungogo Federal Constituency, Kano State.

The dubious intention of the perpetrators of such  lies is aimed at blackmailing or tarnishing his good image as well as undermine his effort of good representation which is unprecedented in the history of his constituency.

We would not have responded to such envious and cheap propaganda due to the motives behind the sponsors;  but for posterity and to set the record straight to the general public.

It is important to note that on 2nd of April, 2022, which coincided with 1st Day of the Holy Month of Ramadan, 1443 A.H. the Honourable Member organised a Mega Empowerment Programme in collaboration with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and Hamada Microfinance Bank which was attended by dignitaries from within and around Kano State and dully covered by local and national media houses like the Rahama TV, Premier Radio, SOLACEBASE, Aminiya and Justice for Watch Newspapers among others;  during the period under review.

During the event, the sum of Two Hundred and Seventy Seven Million Naira (N277,000,000) Cash Grant was shared to Seven Thousand people (7000) from the constituency, in addition to Ten Thousand 50Kg Bags of Beans.

Unfortunately, the video and the images of such cash were  wrongly and mischievously circulated in the social media with unfounded accusations of relating it to the pressure from the recent New Naira Note Redesign Policy introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on November 22nd,   2022.

For record purpose, the total amount shared was 277 Million to 7000 persons, of which if  divided by the total number of  the beneficiaries is less than Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000); an amount below the maximum of 5 million naira as stipulated by the Money Laundering Act.

Equally,  the programme, which is barely 3 months old, is in total contradiction with the aforementioned accusations;  evidenced by Banner, Video and Images from the venue with dates  attached.

At this juncture, we would like to draw the attention of the public to disregard the rumour and ignore the perpetrators in order not to discourage the  quality representation and people with good intentions for bringing democratic dividends to their people which is a total departure from the past.  What Hon. Sani Ma’aruf has done in terms of infrastructures and empowerment has never happened in the history of the Constituency from 1999 till date.

It is  the third time something of this magnitude was done during his yet to expire four year tenure.

Subsequently,  63 Mass Transit Cars were distributed to people; in addition to 200 Motorcycles, 200 Sewing Machines , 200 Grinding Machines and 200 Irrigation Generators while 1000 women were given N10, 000 each,  through NDE as grant to start up a business in 2021, 50 persons got N60,000 each through SPW, 300 got N30,000 each through CCT,  500 people were trained on GSM repairs in partnership with SMEDAN among others.

In the educational sector, a standard ICT Centre was built in Rangaza Town, Blocks of over 100 classrooms in accumulation were built in various locations across the constituency in addition to furniture and teaching or learning materials to Primary School pupils. Recently,  50 students were given Scholarship to study NCE.

Furthermore, a world class Primary Healthcare Centre  was built; including residential apartments for Doctors with Solar electrification and Borehole water supply in Bachirawa, Ungogo Local Government.

Meanwhile,  Over 30 Solar Powered Boreholes were constructed in various Communities around the Constituency;  over 500 Solar Streetlights at Titin Madugu and African International Grains Market, Dawanau, with township roads in Minjibir, Rangaza and some roads construction in view among many others.

Furthermore, 200 Youths were given offers of  employment  in different Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Consequently, the much criticised empowerment programme was done to cushion the effect of the Coronavirus and also to serve as palliatives during Ramadan Fasting. These efforts greatly extinguished tensions and minimized the sufferings in many households which in turn positively brought peace, security and stability around the areas,  as no records of killings or crises were recorded in that year which was hitherto a regular occurrence.

Finally, we need to emphasize the fact that political leaders like Hon. Sani Ma’aruf need to be appreciated, supported and encouraged by the society for their outstanding contribution to human capital development and infrastructure,  in addition to quality representation at the lower chamber of the National Assembly.

Signed: Hamisu Sani Duzau, SA Media to the Honourable Member, Minjibir/Ungogo Constituency.
