Engr. Bashir Bashir declares interest to succeed Ganduje in 2023

After nine years of uncompleted Kano Independent Power Plant, a stalwart of All Progressives Congress (APC) ,  Engr. Bashir Ishaq Bashir has alleged multi-million dollar fraud in the award of the hydro energy plant.

Engr. Bashir raised the concerns on Saturday while declaring intention to join the 2023 governorship race in Kano just as he unveiled eight points’ agenda to transform the state, if elected.

According to him, ” the contract was awarded at $1,750 per megawatt. The cost is outrageous and I don’t know anywhere in the world where such estimate is awarded. By standard, the award is not more than $1,200 per megawatt. Worst still, the contractor handling the project is only transformer certified repairer with no experience of building energy plant.

“Apart from that, the power plant sited near Tiga Dam, about 45 kilometres away from the city center is not only wrongly located, but also amount to counter-productive. By sensitivity analysis distance, not less than 25 percent of energy would be lost during energy channel and evacuation because of the long distance. So the entire project was ill conceived, wrongly awarded and fraudulently cost”.

Besides, the governorship hopeful regretted Kano under the present administration is bereaved of basic indices to measure development in the state.

Engr. Bashir specifically expressed worry on the rationale behind the N8billion flyover project being undertaken by the Ganduje’s administration, when according him, Kano parades 3 million out-of-school children and 85 percent public primary and secondary schools are grossly under funded in the state.

The APC stalwart and strong supporter of the G7 group, pledged to roll out initiative to transform education, health, security, economic, and agricultural sub-sectors of the state, if voted as governor of Kano.

Engr. Bashir who lamented high rate of poverty, unemployment, poor infrastructure, scored the present administration low in human development profile.
