Ethnic community leaders visit 3 Brigade commander, commend army’s security efforts in Kano

A delegation of heads of ethnic groups under the Ethnic Community Leaders Association in Kano State on Friday paid a courtesy visit to the Commander of the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Kano State.

A statement signed by Major Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director Army Public Relations of the Brigade, announced the development on Saturday.

The delegation, led by the Eze Ndigbo of Kano, Boniface Ibekwe, was received by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, alongside other senior officers.

Ibekwe was accompanied by several ethnic community leaders, including the Oba of Yoruba in Kano, Alhaji Muritala Alimi; Sarkin Northern Minority, Abubakar Obochi; and Sarki Edo Kano, Fred Aigbe, among others.

Speaking during the visit, Ibekwe expressed appreciation to officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army for their dedication to protecting the nation’s territorial integrity.

He noted that the cordial relationship between security agencies and ethnic community leaders in the state has played a vital role in sustaining peace and stability.

He described Kano as a “mini Nigeria” due to its diverse ethnic composition and stressed the importance of cooperation among stakeholders to maintain harmony and prosperity in the state.

The community leader also commended the Brigade for its role in addressing recent security challenges in the Shanono area.

While acknowledging the progress made, he raised concerns about security developments within the Sabon Gari axis, noting that videos and audio recordings of alleged threats have been circulating on social media.

Ibekwe assured the Brigade Commander of the ethnic community leaders’ continued support and collaboration with security agencies to promote peace and stability across the state.

Responding, Brigadier General Tukur said he was pleased to receive the delegation, describing ethnic community leaders as critical stakeholders in sustaining peace in Kano.

According to him, security remains a collective responsibility, and he commended the leaders for demonstrating commitment by engaging with the military on security issues.

Tukur urged them to continue sensitising members of their communities to remain vigilant and to provide useful information that could assist security agencies in performing their duties effectively.

He also cautioned against the misuse of social media as a channel for misinformation and disinformation, while applauding the leaders for their contributions to the growth and development of Kano State.

The Brigade Commander noted that development remains one of the key mechanisms for achieving lasting peace in the state.

Tukur further assured the delegation of the Nigerian Army’s continued readiness to support collaborative efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability.

The visit, according to the statement, marks an important step toward strengthening civil–military relations in Kano and reflects a shared commitment by both parties to promote peace and tranquility in the state.
